2009 Symposium
The second annual Center on Health, Aging, and Disability Symposium will be held Friday,
March 13, 2009, from 8:00 am – 2:30 pm at the I Hotel and Conference Center on the U of I campus.
This year's Symposium's theme is The Science of Behavior Change.
The event will feature keynote speaker Paul Estabrooks. Dr. Estabrooks will speak on The Science
of Behavior Change: From Evidence-Based Practice to Practice-Based Evidence. Dr. Estabrooks works
on topics related to obesity and society, and directs the Center for Translational Obesity Research
at Virginia Tech. The center partners with stakeholders to develop and test strategies that advance
social and physical environmental changes that support healthy lifestyles.
Other topics presented will include: children's health and wellness, managing chronic disease,
and health and wellness technologies. The event will close with a summative discussion, buffet
lunch and poster session.

The Center on Health Aging and Disability is co-sponsoring this year’s event with the Health and
Wellness Initiative. The Health and Wellness Initiative consists of representatives from five Colleges:
Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, Applied Health Sciences, Education, Engineering,
Liberal Arts and Sciences and Social Work.
